HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (0-2-3) and Penn State Harrisburg (2-2-2) played to a scoreless draw in Sunday evening's non-conference match. It is the Diplomats' third tie of the season and second-consecutive game to result in a scoreless draw.
The first 45 minutes of Sunday's game were mainly played in the midfield with both teams fighting for possession. The Diplomats generated three shots on net in the first half with two attempts coming from
Lillian Williams that were both denied by the Lions' goalkeeper. On the other side of the field,
Lucy Fleming stopped the lone shot she faced in the first 45 minutes to keep Penn State Harrisburg off the scoreboard.
The Diplomats increased the pressure in the second half with a strong scoring opportunity coming with under 10 minutes left in the contest. In the 81st minute,
Colleen Ferrarese found an opening in front of the Lions' net, but the sophomore sent her shot attempt wide of the cage for a goal kick. F&M continued to press in the 82nd minute as
Kate Boujoukos received a crossing pass in front of the PSU goalkeeper. Boujoukos fired a shot towards the top of the net, but the attempt rang off the crossbar and was cleared away by the defense. The Diplomats regained possession and chipped the ball back into the box, where
Zoe Warne fired a shot that just sailed over the crossbar and out of play.
Ferrarese, Warne, and Williams each registered two shots in the contest. As a team, F&M outshot Penn State Harrisburg, 11-2, in the game.
Franklin & Marshall returns to Tylus Field on Wednesday to host Arcadia at 7:00 p.m.
