LANCASTER, Pa. – Highlighted by
Kate Boujoukos' first-career hat trick, the Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (1-2-3) earned its first win of the season Wednesday evening in a 5-1 victory over Arcadia (2-4). Boujoukos' hat trick is the first for the Diplomats since
Alison Francis '24 captured the feat against Marywood last season. The win also marked the 50th victory for head coach
John Sumoski since taking over the F&M women's soccer program in 2018.
The Knights broke into the scoring column first in the contest with a goal in the 14th minute. The Diplomats quickly responded in the 24th minute as
Lillian Williams found the back of the net off an assist from
Meghan Ross. Williams earned her third goal of the season, while Ross picked up her first-career assist on the play.
Despite being tied on the scoreboard, Franklin & Marshall was dominant in the shot column with 16 attempts in the first half. Meanwhile, the Diplomats only allowed Arcadia two shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
In the 78th minute,
Zoe Warne connected with Boujoukos to give F&M the lead. The score was the junior's fourth-career game-winning goal, while Warne was credited with her second assist of the season. From that point, Boujoukos took over as she added another goal in the 82nd minute off an assist from Williams to give F&M a 3-1 lead.
F&M continued its momentum in the 87th minute as
Katherine Finnerty scored her first-career goal off of
Lillian Kleiman's first-career assist to improve the Diplomats' lead to 4-1. Boujoukos completed the hat trick in the 89th minute as she found the back of the net off a pass from
Alex Wilson.
As a team, Franklin & Marshall peppered the Arcadia net with 34 total shot attempts and 18 shots on target in the game. Both Warne and Williams fired six shots each, while Boujoukos registered five shot attempts in the win.
In net,
