Field Hockey Held Off by Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (1-4) fell on the road at Montclair State (4-1), 2-1, in Saturday morning's non-conference game. A fourth-quarter goal was the difference as MSU's Natalie Surma scored off a rebound in front of the Diplomats' net to put the Red Hawks ahead with 5:39 remaining in the contest.

Montclair State claimed the first goal of the game off a penalty corner with one minute left in the first quarter. Neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the first half as both teams recorded four shots each within the first 30 minutes of play.

The Diplomats found the equalizer late in the third quarter as Annie Malatesta found Megan Dadio in front of the MSU net, setting up the first-year to score her third goal of the season. Malatesta was credited with her first assist of the season on the play.

Dadio led the Diplomats with four shots, while Jessica Miller attempted two shots in the game. As a team, the Diplomats outshot the Red Hawks, 11-7, in the contest.

Franklin & Marshall now travels to face Alvernia on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
