Women's Soccer Battles Haverford To High-Scoring 3-3 Tie

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team gained another point towards the Centennial Conference table with a 3-3 draw at Haverford on Wednesday afternoon. The Diplomats (2-2-4, 1-0-1 CC) took the lead on three different occasions, but the Fords (5-2-1, 0-0-1 CC) answered every time to earn their half of the split decision.

Senior Sophie Koziol scored the first goal of her season to open the scoring as she took a pass from Kate Boujoukos. Just over eight minutes later, Boujoukos again set up the F&M goal as she found Dahlia Pepe for her third goal of the season. Boujoukos' two assists marked the second multi-point match for the junior during the past three matches after she recorded a hat trick against Arcadia just one week ago. Pepe's third goal of the season came in just her eighth appearance of the season and already matches her career high which she set during her first-year campaign.

Despite two quick goals from the Diplomats, Haverford managed to tie the game in between those goals during the 28th minute of action. Franklin & Marshall held that 2-1 lead into the halftime break, but the hosts found their second equalizer of the day just over six minutes into the second half.

Franklin & Marshall took its third lead of the day shortly after being awarded a free kick midway through the second half. Zoe Warne initially set up on the ball just outside of the 18. Instead of going towards goal with the initial take, Warne found Grace Craig at the top of the 18 who got her shot under the crossbar during the 64th minute of play. Craig's goal was the first of the rookie's collegiate career. That third go-ahead goal was ultimately neutralized by a third game-tying goal from the Fords who scored the final game-tying goal with 15:50 remaining in regulation time.

Franklin & Marshall had one final header saved as Koziol made a bid at the Diplomats' fourth goal of the afternoon to help the Diplomats finish the contest with a 15-13 advantage in total shots. Haverford put seven of its attempts on goal, with F&M scoring on half of its six shots on the goal over the 90 minute contest. The Diplomats additionally finished with a 9-6 advantage in corner kick chances.

Centennial Conference action continues on the road for Franklin & Marshall this weekend as the Diplomats head to Swarthmore on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match under the lights. Swarthmore is currently receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches top 25 poll.
