LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (3-2-5, 1-0-2 CC) scored three second-half goals to race past Penn State Berks (2-7-1, 1-0-0 United East), 4-1, in Monday evening's non-conference matchup at Tylus Field.
The Diplomats jumped into the scoring column first in the 43rd minute as
Dahlia Pepe's corner kicked curled past the PSU goalkeeper and into the net for her fourth goal of the season. F&M outshot the Nittany Lions, 12-1, after 45 minutes of play.
Penn State Berks responded with a goal of their own in the 51st minute to tie the game. However, the tie would only last one minute as
Katherine Finnerty headed a crossing pass from
Zoe Warne into the cage during the 52nd minute to give the Diplomats a 2-1 lead. The score was Finnerty's first-career game-winning goal, while Warne picked up her team-high fifth assist of the season.
From that point, Franklin & Marshall continued to build its lead over the visitors. In the 67th minute,
Isabella Fedele rocketed her first-career goal into the back of the net to extend the F&M lead to 3-1. On the play, Pepe recorded her first assist of the season and the 10th of her career.
The Diplomats capped its scoring in the 83rd minute as two first-years connected to score F&M's fourth goal of the game. Finnerty sent a slick crossing feed to
Ashley Inacio inside the box. Inacio sent her shot into the bottom right corner of the net for her first-career goal and Finnerty's second-career assist. Finnerty's assist also helped her complete her first-career three-point night.
Franklin & Marshall peppered the Penn State Berks net with 32 total shot attempts and 18 shots on goal in the game. Inacio led the game with six shot attempts, while
Ellison Errington closely followed with four. Making her first-career start in net,
Molly DeBrandt didn't have to record a save to earn her first-career victory.
Franklin & Marshall now gets set to host No. 25 McDaniel on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. for True Blue Weekend.
