LANCASTER, Pa. – Playing a top 20 matchup of teams that both advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, the No. 17 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against No. 19 Kenyon on Sunday afternoon. The meeting was the first-ever in program history between the two perennial national powers.
Koa Kaliebe scored his first goal of the 2024 season to give the Diplomats a 1-0 lead during the 32nd minute of game action. Kaliebe was able to break the scoreless deadlock after seeing his first shot on goal of the contest saved less than 14 minutes earlier.
Kenyon thought it had tied the game after Nolan Booth made an initial save but the second shot ended in an offside positions as the lead remained with F&M. In addition to its 1-0 lead at the halftime break, F&M was holding a 7-6 advantage in shots after 45 minutes of play.
The Diplomats held that lead all the way until the 86th minute when Kenyon's Eamon Dujakovich tied the game off a pass from Andrew Adams. Booth made five saves during the second half – and six for the match – to keep the Owls off the board for over 85 minutes. That second half pressure allowed the visitors to hold a 14-11 edge in shots as the final whistle blew on the 1-1 draw. Kenyon also maintained a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Kaliebe's shot was one of three on the afternoon as he tied for the team lead with three attempts at goal. Adam Green also took three shots for home side, with Oscar Horwitz tallying a pair of shot attempts in his first action of the 2024 season.
The undefeated men's soccer team will return to action in the Smith-Herr Boot Game this Wednesday, September 11 at 7 p.m. Elizabethtown will serve as the host of the 2024 local rivalry matchup.
