Parra Reaches 1,000 Points in Win Over Dickinson, 65-63

LANCASTER, Pa.- On a night where Josh Parra became the 37th Diplomat to join the 1,000-point club, the Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team (11-6, 3-2 Centennial) earned a narrow 65-63 win over Dickinson (6-11, 1-4 Centennial) at the Mayser Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Parra reached the mark with his seventh point of the night, completing an and-one with a free throw in the second half. He ended the game with 12 points, two blocked shots, two steals, five rebounds, and two assists, shooting 4-of-8 on field goals and 4-of-5 on free throws. He was one of four players who reached double-digits.

Vakaris Grauslys led the team with 17 points and six steals. Kevin Nowoswiat notched his fourth double-double of the year on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Dylan Cormac was 4-of-7 on threes, finishing the game with 12 points. John Seidman led the team with seven assists.

Two threes from Cormac in the first two minutes gave the hosts a 6-0 advantage. Dickinson closed the gap with four points over two possessions, but F&M bounced right back with a 6-0 run for a 12-4 lead with 13:49 left. Dickinson scored five straight, setting up a sequence of the sides trading baskets. With 7:42 left and down 21-16, the Red Devils kicked off an eight-point run, claiming their first lead of the night at 22-21.

Grauslys retook the lead one possession later on a steal, layup, and converted free throw for a 24-22 advantage with three minutes to go. The lead was short-lived, as the teams swapped the lead three more times in the final moments, with Dickinson capping the half on a three to lead 29-27 through 20 minutes. F&M were lethal on the counterattack, generating 18 points from turnovers in the first half.

The Diplomats kicked off the second half with a 15-1 run that included Parra reaching his 1,000th point, giving the hosts their first-double digits lead of the night 40-30 through the opening 2:45. The lead hovered around this point until around the 10:30 mark, as Dickinson scored five unanswered to close the gap to 48-44 with 9:52 to play. F&M followed this with a 6-2 run with all of the points coming via Nowoswiat to lead by eight points with seven minutes left.

F&M maintained the gap entering the final two minutes, as Dickinson made a case for the win with a layup and three over two possessions to trail 63-60 with 90 seconds left. Grauslys converted 1-of-2 free throws a possession later, then Dickinson scored a layup to stay within two points entering the final minute. Following an unsuccessful F&M jumper, Dickinson drew a foul with 15 seconds left, but hit 1-of-2 to trail 64-63. Grauslys would be fouled on the next possession, and he sank one of his shots for a two-point cushion with ten seconds to go. Dickinson's driving layup in the dying seconds was unsuccessful.

The Diplomats look for three-straight wins, as they travel to Washington College on Wednesday, January 29, at 7:00 p.m.
