Women's Basketball Defeated in Overtime by Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (10-4, 1-2 CC) suffered a 74-71 overtime-loss on the road at Haverford (7-6, 1-2 CC) in Wednesday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) matchup. The Diplomats forced overtime by tying the game in the final seconds of regulation. However, the Fords outscored F&M, 11-8, in the extra frame to escape with the win.

Haverford had its offense clicking early as the Fords jumped out to an early double-digit lead in the first quarter. F&M began chipping away at the deficit as the Diplomats reduced Haverford's lead to 31-22 at the halfway mark of the second quarter. Back-to-back jumpers from Lizzie Neville got the visitors within five. After a Haverford three-pointer with 2:53 remaining in the half, Mackenzie Ward scored the next five points for the Diplomats to cut the Fords' lead to 34-31 entering halftime.

The teams traded baskets to start the second half with Haverford leading 40-36 at the 6:54 mark of the third quarter. From that point, Ally Trebelev tallied the next five points of the game to give F&M a 41-40 advantage for its first lead of the contest. However, the Fords closed the quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 50-45 lead into the final period.

Haverford held a 63-56 lead with 2:07 remaining in regulation when Trebelev knocked down a jumper to reduce the deficit to five. With one minute left in the game, Neville converted an and-one opportunity to make the contest a one-score game. In the closing seconds, Quinn Galligan drilled a clutch jump shot from mid-range to send the game into overtime with the score at 63-all.

The Fords held a four-point lead two minutes into the extra period when F&M began a run of their own. Trailing 68-64, Kennedy Wilburn tipped her own rebound in to get the visitors within two. After Ward made a free throw, Wilburn gave the Diplomats a 69-68 lead with a layup on the following possession. However, that would be the last time F&M held the lead for the rest of the contest as Haverford scored five points, while limiting the Diplomats to two points in the final two and a half minutes of the game.

Franklin & Marshall shot 38.6 percent (27-of-70) from the field and 31 percent (9-of-29) from beyond the arc in the contest.

Wilburn led the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds to record her 14th-career double-double. The senior also had two blocks and one steal in the effort. Trebelev notched 14 points with three three-pointers in the matchup. Neville recorded 13 points with five assists and four steals in the game. Galligan also finished in double-figures with 10 points, three assists and one steal on the day.
