LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (7-3-4, 3-2-2 CC) came up just short in its 1-0 loss to No. 24 Johns Hopkins (10-4-1, 5-2 CC) in Saturday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) matchup at Tylus Field. A goal from JHU in the 44th minute was the difference as F&M couldn't find the equalizer in the contest.
The Diplomats tallied an early shot on goal as
Katherine Finnerty sent an attempt during the 13th minute of the game, but her shot was saved by the Blue Jays' goalkeeper.
Johns Hopkins dominated the shot column in the first half with 10 shots, while Finnerty's chance was the Diplomats' lone attempt in the period.
F&M ramped up its production on offense in the final 45 minutes, totaling six shots in the second half. The Diplomats had numerous chances come late in the contest with five of those shots coming in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
Meg Balerna and
Kate Boujoukos had both their shots go wide of the cage, while
Emerson McDonald had her shot sail high of the net. Balerna and
Colleen Ferrarese had the last two looks for F&M, but both of their shots flew over the crossbar for goal kicks.
Johns Hopkins outshot F&M, 13-7, in the match with the Diplomats only putting one shot on net. Goalkeeper
Lucy Fleming did all she could to keep Franklin & Marshall within striking distance, making three saves in the game.
