LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (9-3-4, 4-2-2 CC) clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament for the fifth-consecutive season with a 1-0 victory over Haverford (6-8-3, 3-6-0 CC) Saturday evening. F&M found the back of the net six minutes into the contest to jump in front of the Fords early.
The Diplomats possessed the ball deep into Haverford's side of the field as
Kate Boujoukos dropped a pass back to
Katherine Finnerty. Finnerty took a shot from distance that bounced past the Fords' goalkeeper and inside the left post for her third goal of the season. The score was also Finnerty's second-career game-winning goal. Franklin & Marshall had an opportunity to add insurance in the 39th minute as
Julianna Sirico fired a shot that rang off the crossbar. The ball bounced to Boujoukos, who ripped a second shot that was saved by the Haverford goalkeeper.
The Diplomats attacked the Haverford net early in the second half, beginning with a rocket from
Emerson McDonald that was batted away for a save. Four minutes later,
Meg Balerna tried a shot on target that was denied by Haverford's Allie Billups.
The Diplomats outshot the Fords, 17-7, in the game with Boujoukos leading F&M with four total shots. Balerna and McDonald followed with two attempts each in the win. Goalkeeper
Lucy Fleming only needed to make two saves to record her fifth shutout in net this season.
Franklin & Marshall now heads to Collegeville, Pennsylvania to take on Ursinus Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
