LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (6-2-2, 2-1-1 CC) played Dickinson (7-2-2, 3-0-1 CC) to a 1-1 tie in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) match. The Diplomats took an early lead in the contest, but Dickinson responded with a goal in the 61st minute to even the score.
F&M attacked the Red Devils' net early and often with five shots in the first 15 minutes of play. In the 17th minute, F&M capitalized on a corner kick as
Emerson McDonald headed a shot past the Dickinson goalkeeper to put the Diplomats ahead, 1-0. The score was McDonald's team-best sixth goal of the season, while
Zoe Warne was credited with her fourth assist of the fall on the play.
Franklin & Marshall outshot Dickinson, 8-1, in the first 45 minutes of play, but the Red Devils came out firing in the second half. Dickinson slipped past the F&M defense and found the back of the net in the 60th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The Diplomats had opportunities to take back the lead, including a shot on goal by
Meg Balerna in the 66th minute that was saved by the Red Devils' goalkeeper. Warne had the Diplomats' final chance at a game-winner in the 83rd minute, but her shot hit the outside of the post for a goal kick.
F&M held the advantage in shots, 18-10, with four attempts on goal in the contest. McDonald led the Diplomats with six shots, while
Grace Craig,
Katherine Finnerty, and
Amanda Nemeth recorded three shots each. Goalkeeper
Lucy Fleming made two saves for the Diplomats in the tie.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Wednesday, hosting McDaniel on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
