Men's Basketball Opens Holiday Tournament with 84-47 Victory Over CCNY

LANCASTER, Pa.- The Franklin & Marshall men's basketball team (8-1) opened the F&M Holiday Tournament brought to you by the Greater Lancaster Hotel & Motel Association and Discover Lancaster with a commanding 84-47 victory over visiting City College of New York (1-8, 1-1 CUNYAC) on Monday evening.

Four Diplomats reached double-figures for scoring. Dylan Cormac shot 13 points, going 4-of-7 on threes, while Brynson Amos-Whitfield also had 13 points including three triples and five rebounds. Steve Donahue posted 13 points with three threes, while Vakaris Grauslys led the Diplomats with five assists plus 11 points, leading the team at the charity stripe by converting 5-of-6 chances. 

A three from Grasulys opened the scoring in the contest, while Bohdan Biekietov added four points on a jumper and free throw over the next two minutes to put F&M ahead 7-3 through the first four minutes. The Beavers soon strung together consecutive jumpers to tie the game at 9-9, although F&M reclaimed the advantage with a 5-0 run. After two free throws from CCNY, F&M posted a 9-2 run with a pair of threes from Amos-Whitfield to reach a double-digit lead for the first time at 23-13 with 10:40 to play. The Diplomats extended the lead further with a nine-point run to get 17 points clear with seven minutes to go in the first half. The Diplomats continued to make use of threes in the remaining time, as Cormac scored three triples in the last three minutes, giving the tournament hosts full control with a 52-25 lead at halftime. F&M shot 64.3% (18-of-28) from the field and 73.3% on threes (11-of-15) through the first 20 minutes.

The Diplomats maintained course in the second half, outscoring the Beavers 32-22 to post a 84-47 final scoreline. Across the entire contest, F&M outrebounded their opponents 47-21, while the Diplomat bench provided 41 points.
