GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (7-2, 1-1 CC) was defeated on the road at Gettysburg (4-4, 1-0 CC), 62-41, in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) game. The Bullets outscored the Diplomats, 40-14, in the second half to rally past F&M in the contest – handing the visitors their first CC loss of the season.
Franklin & Marshall found success early, scoring the first eight points of the game.
Kayla McCrea started the contest by making a jumper, followed by baskets from
Gia Sioutis and
Lizzie Neville. A layup from Sioutis capped the stretch before Gettysburg tallied its first two points of the game to cut F&M's lead to 8-2 at the halfway point of the first quarter. After the Bullets made a jumper on the next possession, Neville converted an and-one to push the lead to seven. A jumper from
Mackenzie Ward gave F&M a nine-point cushion, but Gettysburg scored the final four points of the period to cut the visitors' lead to 13-8 after one quarter of play.
Gettysburg reduced F&M's lead to 15-10, before Neville scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Diplomats a nine-point advantage. The Bullets answered by scoring the next seven points to cut the deficit to 19-17 with five minutes left in the frame. Neville drained a three-pointer and knocked down a jumper to push the lead to seven. After Gettysburg made a jumper,
Steph Sexton responded with a three-pointer to extend the lead to eight. The Bullets closed the quarter with a three-pointer of their own to cut F&M's lead to 27-22 entering halftime.
Sioutis knocked down a jumper to start the second half with the Diplomats ahead by seven. From that point, the visitors entered a cold stretch from the floor as Gettysburg took over the lead halfway through the quarter. In the second half, the Diplomats shot 16.1 percent (5-of-31) from the field and knocked down just two three-pointers in the stretch. Meanwhile, Gettysburg shot 45.5 percent (15-of-33) from the field and 50 percent (3-of-6) from beyond the arc in the second half.
F&M finished the contest shooting 26.6 percent (17-of-64) from the field and 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from beyond the arc. Gettysburg also controlled the rebound battle in the contest as the home team outrebounded the Diplomats, 51-38.
Neville led the Diplomats with 14 points, while tallying nine rebounds, three assists, and one block. Sioutis grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds with nine points, and two blocks.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Monday, December 29 when it plays Neumann at 6:00 p.m. to start the Montclair State Tournament.
