Women's Swimming Centennial Championship Preview

2/19/2025 12:00:00 PM

LANCASTER, Pa.- With the dual meet season concluded, the Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team looks towards this weekend's Centennial Conference Swimming Championships from the Kunkel Aquatic Center. F&M claimed fourth at championships last season, and they enter championship weekend after a 5-5, 5-2 Centennial dual meet season with in-conference victories over Dickinson, Ursinus, Washington College, McDaniel, and Bryn Mawr.

In individual events, the top eight swimmers in each preliminary will advance to the championship finals, with the ninth through 16th swimmers advancing to the consolation finals.

Madi Bickford has the most top eight seeds for individual events for the Diplomats, as the first-year freestyle swimmer is ranked fifth in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and seventh in the 200 freestyle.

Four others have two top-eight times including Sophie Bergstrom (5th in 100 backstroke, 7th in 200 backstroke), Catherine Crampton (3rd in 200 breaststroke, 8th in 200 IM), Georgia May (4th in 1650 freestyle, 8th in 500 freestyle), and Ava Tseng (7th in 1650 freestyle, 8th in 200 freestyle).

The relay events will see the top teams ("A" team) from each school compete in an A Final, while schools have an additional team entered for the B Final.

The Diplomats have two top-eight seeds in the 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay, while the best seed overall for F&M in relays is third in the 400 freestyle relay. With a time of 3:33.44, Madi Bickford, Matti Harvey, Sophie Moyer, and Catherine Crampton broke the program's 400 freestyle relay record at November's Franklin & Marshall Invitational.

Live video and live results for the entire weekend will be available through 'Championship Central' link. The link also includes a full schedule and psych-sheet. Both a team championship and individual accolades will be presented at the end of the competition, with first-team, second-team and honorable mention All-Centennial Conference honors going to the top-three finishers in each individual event. First and second-team honors will be awarded to the top-two finishers in relay races.
