Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past Messiah, 22-10

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team had 12 different goal scorers – including six players with multiple tallies – during a 22-10 victory at Messiah on Wednesday evening. The Diplomats' (2-2) most notable tally came from goalie Teddy Scarborough who scored from behind midfield when he saw on open opportunity during a clearing attempt.

Scarborough was one of three Diplomats who scored their first career goals on the night, joining John Bolognesi and Eli Crystal, while Jack Cicchelli recorded the first point of his career with an assist. The leading scorer on the evening was Kai Kelly who rattled the twine five times, while Jack Luviano added a hat trick to his four-point evening. Preston Blue, Dillon Mannix, Liam Timmins, and Mason Montrella each had multi-goal outings for F&M.

After Messiah got on the board first, Franklin & Marshall scored the next eight goals, with Charlie Bernicker tallying the eventual go-ahead goal before Pierce Archer connected early in the second quarter to complete the run of eight answered goals. Scarborough's goal came with 4:58 to play in the second quarter during a 4-0 run that helped the Diplomats carry a 13-3 lead into the half as Mannix Scored with just one second left before the break.

At the half, F&M was doubling up the Eagles with a 30-15 advantage in shots and had put 20 of those 30 shot attempts on goal. The Diplomats added a 5-0 run during the third quarter and 3-0 spurt in the fourth to complete the dominating victory. Ryan Connelly and Crystal both added their names to the score column during the fourth quarter as F&M finished the night with a 55-34 advantage in total shots.

Owen Krause took the bulk of the face-offs for the visitors and won 15 of those 28 restarts while leading the team with five ground balls. As a defensive unit, the Diplomats caused six turnovers to help limit the Eagles to 15-of-19 of their clearing attempts. Franklin & Marshall was also very efficient during its man-up chances, scoring on three of those four opportunities throughout the win. In addition to his goal, Scarborough stopped 11 of the 20 shots on goal he faced before John Donovan came on to finish the final three-plus minutes in the crease.

Men's lacrosse now returns home for a noon start on Sunday, March 2 as the Diplomats host Ohio Wesleyan. Those two teams will be meeting for the first time since the 2015 season and Sunday's matchup will mark the first-ever contest in Lancaster between the two schools who will be meeting for just the third time in program history.
