PHILADELPHIA – The No. 22 Franklin & Marshall women's squash team advanced to the semifinals of the Walker Cup via an 8-1 win against Haverford on day one of the College Squash Association (CSA) Team National Championships. The win marked the third time that the Diplomats defeated Haverford on the season, with Friday's win being the most dominant of that season series.
With their quarterfinal win, the Diplomats advanced to the semifinals where they will face No. 26 Chatham who was an upset winner on the first day. Chatham and Franklin & Marshall will play on Saturday at 9 a.m. for a spot in the Walker Cup Championship match.
The Diplomats swept the top eight matches on the ladder during their opening round matchup, dropping just two of those games throughout all of their victories. Gurlin Kaur (No. 1), Zarine Gidwaney (No. 2), Tatum Long (No. 5), Rory Dasher (No. 6), Joey Ho (No. 7), and Lavanya Seshasayee (No. 8) all took down their opponents in the minimum three games. Mia Todd (No. 3) and Ashanti Amastal (No. 4) needed just one extra game to claim their team point.
Saturday's match will be a rematch of the Pennsylvania State Championships which kicked off the season back in November. During that first matchup, Franklin & Marshall claimed a thrilling 5-4 victory as the teams entered that match as the No. 24 and No. 25 teams in the country in the preseason rankings.
