THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (7-5) fell 15-0 in seven innings to Cal Lutheran (11-2) Monday afternoon in the Diplomats' fourth game of their Spring Break trip to California. The Kingsmen jumped out to an early lead, scoring nine runs in the first three innings, while keeping F&M off the scoreboard in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall had its opportunities to respond throughout the game, leaving eight runners stranded in the contest. No bigger chance came than in the top of the second. Trailing 4-0,
Michael von Zuben singled, followed by walks to
Andrew Filippelli and
Gideon Schwartz to load the bases with one out. However, a lineout back to the pitcher and a strikeout allowed the Kingsmen to escape the jam without allowing any runs.
Six different Diplomats tallied hits, while
Nick Lorenzo led the team with two hits in the contest.
Enrico Tufano recorded the only extra-base hit for F&M as he roped a pinch-hit double in his lone at-bat in the top of the sixth.
Luca Marshall (0-1) was hit with the loss on the mound. Marshall struck out two and allowed four earned runs in two innings-pitched.
Franklin & Marshall looks to bounce back on Tuesday, taking on Whittier at 5:00 p.m. EST (2:00 p.m. PST).
