Baseball Fends Off Ursinus, 2-1

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (18-14, 4-6 CC) held off Ursinus (17-13, 4-6 CC), 2-1, in Monday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) matchup under the lights at Penn Medicine Park. A two-run second inning was enough to get the job done as the Diplomats shut down the Ursinus offense - completing the season sweep of the Bears.

Andrew Filippelli walked, followed by a single from Colin Mackenzie to put two runners on with one out in the bottom of the second. Gideon Schwartz then ripped a single through the left side of the infield to score Filippelli for the first run of the game. Mackenzie advanced to third on the hit from Schwartz, setting up Nick Lorenzo for an RBI-sacrifice fly to extend the F&M lead to 2-0.

Ursinus plated a run on three hits to cut the Diplomats' lead in half, 2-1. The Bears pieced together one final push in the top of the ninth by getting two runners on base, but Bijan Anvar got the final two outs of the contest to pick up his second save of the season.

Bobby Falese led the Diplomats with three hits, including a double in the first inning. Lorenzo and Schwartz both recorded RBI in the win.

Dan Galef (7-1) earned his seventh win of the year with another impressive outing on the mound. Galef tied his season-high in strikeouts, fanning eight batters and allowing one earned run in six innings pitched. David McGeorge was stellar out of the bullpen, striking out four hitters and allowing just three hits and no earned runs in 2.1 innings of relief.

Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Washington College at Caplan Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
