LANCASTER, Pa. – The (RV) Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (5-1-1, 1-0 CC) celebrated True Blue Weekend with a 3-0 victory over Muhlenberg (3-4-1, 0-1 CC) in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) opener. F&M presented a relentless offensive attack, generating 26 total shots that led to three goals on the day.
Neither team could break the scoreless tie in the first half with F&M outshooting Muhlenberg, 11-2, in the first 45 minutes of the game. The Diplomats' effort paid off in the 62nd minute as
Colleen Ferrarese connected with
Meg Balerna to put F&M ahead, 1-0. The score was Balerna's second goal of the season and Ferrarese's sixth assist of the year.
Just two minutes later,
Lillian Williams sent a centering pass to
Elizabeth Jones in front of the Mules' net. Jones fired a shot into the back of the cage for her first goal of the season, while Williams was credited with her second assist of the fall.
The Diplomats capped the scoring in the 77th minute off one of F&M's 11 corner kicks of the game as
Zoe Warne found
Ellison Errington in front of Muhlenberg net for F&M's third goal of the afternoon. Errington picked up her fifth goal of the year, while Warne recorded her third assist of the season on the play.
The Diplomat tallied 26 total shots with 12 attempts on goal in the contest. Errington led the game with six shots, while Williams followed with four attempts in the victory. F&M's defense shut down the Mules' offensive attack, allowing just five total shots and two shots on goal in the game. Goalkeeper
Lucy Fleming needed to make just two saves in the contest to record her fifth win in net this year.
