SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (6-2-1, 2-1 CC) fell on the road to No. 19 Swarthmore (6-1-2, 3-0 CC), 1-0, in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) game. A score from the Garnet in the 29th minute was the difference in the match as F&M's five-game unbeaten streak came to an end.
Franklin & Marshall came out firing to start the contest, starting with two shots on goal from
Emerson McDonald in the eighth minute.
Katherine Finnerty also tried a shot on target in the 25th minute, but Swarthmore's Dahlia Bedward was able to make her third save of the day. Despite the early surge, F&M was unable to put another shot on net for the rest of the half.
Trailing 1-0 with under 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Diplomats put one last push together with McDonald and
Meg Balerna sending shots just wide of the cage.
Lillian Williams had the Diplomats' final chance at an equalizer in the 88th minute, but her shot was blocked in front.
Swarthmore outshot F&M, 17-12, in the game with both teams generating four shots on goal apiece. McDonald led the Diplomats with four shots, while
Kate Boujoukos and Errington tallied two attempts each. Goalkeeper
Lucy Fleming made three saves in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall looks to bounce back when it hosts Dickinson on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
