James Conway Ranked Fifth in First NCAA Coaches' Ranking

LANCASTER, Pa. – James Conway was ranked fifth in the country at 184 lbs. in the first release of the Division I Wrestling Coaches' Ranking of the 2025-26 season. This ranking is one of three prongs that determine conference allocations and additionally factors into seeding at the NCAA Division I National Championship. Winning percentage and RPI also factor into the conference allocations.

Subsequent coaches' rankings (and RPI rankings) will be released on February 12 and February 26 prior to the conference tournament when allocations are announced. A final coaches ranking will take place on March 9 after the conclusion of the conference tournaments.

Conway also moved up to No. 5 in the national rankings according to both InterMat and FloWrestling.  The Diplomats' senior captain is 26-1 this season (.963 winning percentage). He enters the week with 99 career victories which is third in program history. Seven of Conway's wins have come against nationally-ranked opponents this season, including a top 10 wins against Isaac Dean (Iowa State) and Brock Mantanona (Michigan) on his way to winning the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in early December. He has also been the individual champion at the Southeast Open, Keystone Classic, and David H. Lehman '68 F&M Open.

Eighteen of Conway's 26 victories have come by bonus points this season as he is tied for the Division I lead with 10 technical falls to compliment has national led in total wins. The 2024 Elite 90 Award winner has five pins and three major decisions on the season and holds perfect marks in both dual (6-0) and EIWA (5-0) matches.

Wrestling returns to EIWA action this Saturday, February 1 at Drexel. That match is slated to get started at 6 p.m. in Philadelphia. The Diplomats will then quickly turn the page when they return home on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against Hofstra inside the Mayser Center.
