Hoover Breaks F&M Points Record in Playoff-Clinching 2-0 Bryn Mawr Win

LANCASTER, Pa.- The No. 12 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (12-4, 6-3 Centennial Conference) opened the final week of the regular season with a record-breaking, playoff-clinching 2-0 win over Bryn Mawr (11-5, 5-4 Centennial Conference). With the game's opening goal, Caitlin Hoover surpassed assistant coach Erin McCormick '20 to become the new record holder for points scored in program history.

Hoover, who scored both goals, entered the night tied with McCormick with 136 points before moving up to 140 points by the game's end. Megan Dadio and Hannah Fitzgerald recorded one assist, while Meghan Dole had to make just one stop to earn her sixth shutout of the season.

After drawing the game's opening penalty corner and shot just minutes prior, F&M earned their second penalty corner of the game in the seventh minute. Dadio's injection found Hoover on the near side who slotted the ball low and to the goalkeeper's bottom-right corner to set the new points record.

F&M doubled their lead two minutes into the second quarter. Fitzgerald entered the offensive third following a pass forward from Maya Rorick. From there, she dribbled right and slotted the ball through multiple defenders to Hoover near the penalty spot. She created space for a backhanded shot and found the back of the cage from a few yards away. All three of the Owls' shots and both of their penalty corner chances came in the second quarter, as Dole was forced into one spot in the 22nd minute.

F&M totaled two shots in the third quarter and five more in the fourth quarter, but the scoreline stayed at 2-0 at the end of the hour.

The win secures a fifth-consecutive trip to the Centennial Conference Field Hockey Tournament, leaving Saturday's regular-season finale as a chance to potentially earn home-field advantage in the tournament's first round.

The Diplomats' final test of the regular season sees them host #14 Swarthmore on Saturday, October 31, at 12 p.m.
