COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team rolled to an 18-7 victory over Ursinus in its Centennial Conference opener on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats (6-3, 1-0 CC) led 13-0 after the first half and never looked back against the host Bears (4-3, 0-1 CC).
Liam Timmins, Jack Luviano, and Mason Montrella each recorded hat tricks during the victory as 10 different players scored a goal and 12 Diplomats recorded a point. Montrella tied for the team lead with four points, with Ben Dale adding three helpers in addition to his tally.
Dale, Preston Blue, Carter Connors, and Eli Crystal joined Montrella and Luviano in the first 15 minutes of scoring action. Montrella had has hat trick secured midway through the second quarter, while Nick Dotro added his name to the score sheet before the half. Dillon Mannix had the first goal of the second half as the Diplomats led 14-0 before Ursinus got on the board with 9:57 to play in the third.
Multi-goal scorers highlighted the second half action before Colin Song pushed the F&M advantage to a game-high 12 goals at 18-6 with just over six minutes left in regulation time. The Diplomats finished with a 52-35 advantage in shots, bolstered by a 34-15 advantage during the first 30 minutes of game action. Teddy Scarborough played the first three quarters in goal and stopped 13 of the 17 shots he faced. William Shaw made one additional stop during his 15 minutes in the cage.
Leading the team with a 10-for-22 effort at the faceoff X, Connor Traynor collected a team-high four ground balls. Nine different players scooped up multiple ground balls. That group included Cole Morris who caused a team-high two turnovers in addition to his two ground balls.
Men's lacrosse continues Centennial Conference action this coming week when the Diplomats travel to Haverford on Wednesday, March 25. That game is set for a 7 p.m. start before F&M returns home to Shadek Stadium next weekend.
