Men's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Class vs. Swarthmore

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team fell to Swarthmore by a 15-10 final on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats led 10-8 after Liam Timmins scored with 12:13 remaining in regulation time. However, the Garnet finished the game on a 7-0 run in the battle of two teams who were tied for the final playoff spot entering the weekend.

Saturday was Senior Day for the Diplomats as they celebrated the 12 seniors on this year's team. That class accounted for seven of the team's 10 goals, paced by hat tricks from Liam Timmins and Jack Luviano – with Carter Connors also finding the back of the cage. However, the Diplomats could not stop Clay Almgren who finished with seven goals, highlighted by four during the fourth quarter run.

The matchup got off to a quick start as the two sides combined for seven goals in just under nine minutes of action. Matt Marino and Luviano gave the Diplomats a 2-1 lead before Timmins scored his first of the afternoon as Swarthmore led 4-3 early. The contest was tied on six different occasions, including the final tie coming at eight-all. Mason Montrella and Ben Dale added their names the scoresheet during the back-and-forth battle.

F&M took its first multi-goal lead of the game after Timmins tied the game at eight on a feed from Dale. Luviano gave the Diplomats the lead heading to the final quarter before Timmins took a pass from his teammate to put F&M up by two. Nevertheless, Swarthmore scored seven times during the final 10:44 of regulation time to secure the come-from-behind victory.

The Garnet finished with a 43-26 advantage in shots, putting 31 of those attempts on goal. Teddy Scarborough made 16 saves for the Diplomats who turned the ball over just eight times. A big difference came at the faceoff X where Swarthmore had a 20-9 advantage. Declan Connaughton and Montrella tied for the team lead with two caused turnovers as both teams took great care of their respective possessions.

Men's lacrosse will wrap up its season next Saturday with a trip to Gettysburg. Opening faceoff on the battlefield is set for 1 p.m.
