Baseball Stifles Gettysburg, 4-1, on Senior Day

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (20-15-1, 6-9-1 CC) powered its way past Gettysburg (25-11, 8-8 CC), 4-1, in Friday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) game at Caplan Field. David McGeorge and Sebastian Holl combined to limit the Bullets to just one hit in the contest as the Diplomats earned a split in the season series. Additionally, the win was the 250th career victory for head coach Ryan Horning.

Before the game, the Franklin & Marshall baseball team honored its nine seniors. Those seniors included Matt Hollender, Kiernan Keller, Luca Marshall, Nolan McCloskey, Peter Mullen, Ryan Rodriguez, Mateo Sucre, Michael von Zuben, and Tanner Wolpert.

A pitchers' duel through the early-portion of the game saw just three-combined hits through the first 4.5 innings. F&M finally broke the scoreless stretch in the bottom of the fifth inning as Nick DiGiacomo blasted a two-run homer over the center field fence to put the Diplomats ahead, 2-0. The home run was DiGiacomo's fourth of the season.

The Diplomats added on in the bottom of the eighth as Owen Woodward led off the frame with a single into left field. A sacrifice bunt from Zac Fuscaldo allowed Woodward to move into scoring position. The next batter, Landon Hallett roped a double down the right field line to score the F&M third baseman for the third run of the game. Wolpert then laced a double into right field to plate Hallett and extend the lead to 4-1.

The Bullets scored a run in the top of the ninth to avoid the shutout, but Holl got the third out on a popup to end the game.

DiGiacomo, Hallett, and Wolpert all recorded two hits apiece in the victory. DiGiacomo led F&M with two RBI, while Hallett and Wolpert notched one RBI each.

McGeorge (5-2) earned his fifth win this season, striking out seven and allowing just six base runners and no earned runs in 7.2 innings of work. Holl tallied his first save of the year as he tossed one strikeout and allowed no earned runs in 1.1 innings of relief.

Franklin & Marshall makes one final push to the CC Tournament as it wraps up the regular season with a doubleheader at Muhlenberg on Sunday. Game one is scheduled to start at noon.
