Baseball Rolls Past Albright, 12-2, in Seven Innings

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (16-9, 3-3 CC) earned its 13th non-conference victory of the season as the Diplomats downed Albright (11-15-1), 12-2, in seven innings during Monday afternoon's game at Penn Medicine Park. F&M scored seven runs in the second inning to take an early lead en route to its seventh run-rule win of the year.

The Diplomats got started in the bottom of the first with a walk to Michael von Zuben and a single from Tanner Wolpert to put runners at the corners with one out. Back-to-back walks to Matt Hollender and Nick DiGiacomo brought von Zuben home for the first run of the game. Zac Fuscaldo sent a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Wolpert to score, giving F&M a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, the Diplomats loaded the bases for von Zuben to single through the right side of the infield to score Noah Ford for F&M's third run of the contest. The next batter, Wolpert ripped a double down the right field line to clear the bases as the Diplomats extended their lead to 6-0. A single from Hollender put runners at the corners for DiGiacomo to slash an RBI-single to push the lead to 7-0. F&M later plated two runners on a 6-4-3 double play to cushion its lead at 9-0.

Albright answered with two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Diplomats came right back in the bottom-half of the frame. DiGiacomo reached on an error and immediately stole second to put himself into scoring position with two outs. A single from Fuscaldo scored DiGiacomo from second to increase the lead to eight.

In the bottom of the seventh, Fuscaldo led off the frame by getting hit by a pitch. After a groundout moved him to second, Fuscaldo came around to score on a single from Ford to give the Diplomats an 11-2 lead. A walk put Ford into scoring position for von Zuben to bring the F&M catcher home to complete the run-rule victory.

Wolpert led F&M with three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored in the contest. Ford followed with three hits, one RBI, and two runs scored in the win. Ryan Rodriguez and von Zuben also recorded multi-hit games with both players notching two hits each in the victory.

Chet Kosnar (2-0) earned the second win of his career, tossing one strikeout and allowing two earned runs in 4.0 innings pitched. Tanner Lewis pitched well in relief, allowing just two base runners in 2.0 innings of work. Colin Mackenzie struck out one and didn't allow a base runner as he pitched the final inning of the game.

Franklin & Marshall returns to Centennial Conference (CC) play on Tuesday, hosting (RV) Ursinus at Caplan Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
