LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team is headed to Trinity (Conn.) for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Diplomats open the national tournament with a first round game against Neumann on Saturday, May 9 (1 p.m.) in Connecticut and would play the host Bantams on Sunday (1 p.m.) with a victory during the opening round game.
The Diplomats earned their way into the NCAA Division III Tournament by winning the Centennial Conference Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and securing the conference's automatic qualifying spot. Playing the toughest schedule in the country, F&M finished 22nd in the NCAA Power Index.
Franklin & Marshall is making its 31st appearance all-time at the NCAA Championships. Saturday's game with Neumann will be the first meeting in program history between the two schools. Neumann (9-8) defeated Marywood for its first-ever Atlantic East Conference Title and NCAA Tournament bid. The Knights won their conference championship by an 18-13 final.
Trinity (Conn.) earned hosting rights after finishing the season with a 12-5 record (7-3 NESCAC). The Bantams lost in the semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament to top-ranked Middlebury and finished the season with the No. 9 ranking in the NCAA Power Index. Trinity (Conn.) and F&M did meet during the regular season, with the Bantams securing a 17-7 victory inside Shadek Stadium.
