SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The No. 16 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (1-0) opened the 2026 season with a commanding 4-0 victory at Susquehanna (0-1) on Tuesday evening.
Caitlin Hoover notched her sixth career hat-trick in the victory, while the defense allowed just one shot to give
Meghan Dole her first shutout of the season with one save.
Maya Rorick had a goal and one assist, while
Sarah Weitzman and
Caroline Roschen each had one assist.
The Diplomats opened the scoring eight minutes into the first period on a Hoover goal assisted by Rorick. Rorick brought the lead to 2-0 with a minute to go in the period following a pair of blocked shots from Hoover and
Hannah Fitzgerald. The Diplomats generated eight shots through the first 15 minutes.
Hoover scored her second goal of the game five minutes through the second period to give the visitors a 3-0 lead at the intermission. The Diplomats outshot the River Hawks 5-1 in the second half, as Dole made her lone save of the contest.
The third period saw just two shots from F&M in a scoreless 15-minute block.Â
Hoover completed her hat-trick off a Dadio penalty corner just a minute into the fourth period. F&M had seven shots and seven penalty corners in the fourth period.Â
Across the hour, the Diplomats generated 22 shots, 13 shots on goal, and 15 penalty corners.
The Diplomats are back at home for a duel with nearby Elizabethtown on Saturday, September 5, at noon.Â
