LANCASTER, Pa. – A second lightning delay ultimately put a halt to the Franklin & Marshall's men's soccer season opener on Tuesday night as the match with Rutgers-Newark was canceled at halftime.

Although the contest was tied at 1-1, it will officially be recorded as a no contest since it did not reach the NCAA required 70-minute threshold to be considered a completed match. No plans are currently in place to resume the contest.

The Scarlet Raiders struck first as Ali Celik scored during the 39th minute of game action, but the Diplomats answered just over five minutes later as Wes Wise finished a set piece put into motion by Sutton Hoehl. F&M held a 6-2 edge in shots before the second lightning delayed which occurred just prior to the start of the second half.

Men's soccer will now look to officially begin its season this Friday, September 4 when the Diplomats host Washington and Lee on Tylus Field in a scheduled 7 p.m. start.
