LANCASTER, Pa. – Despite out shooting Albright 7-3 in the opening half, the Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team found itself trailing the Lions 1-0 at the break. The Diplomats then doubled up the visitors in shots on goal during the second half, but could not find the equalizer in the eventual 1-0 final.
In addition to its advantage pushing towards the goal, the Diplomats held an 8-3 edge in corner kick attempts. Albright goalie Mike Lawry withstood that consistent pressure inside his 18 throughout his 90 minutes in goal and finished with seven saves to help his team record the shutout victory. Diego Moreno made three saves for the home side, but Brady Divito's goal during the 30th minute of played proved to be all the offense that Albright needed.
Eight different Franklin & Marshall starters – and nine different players overall – recorded a shot in pursuit of the team's first goal on Wednesday afternoon. Alex Ardizzone led those efforts with three shot attempts. Nico Gonzalez and Thomas Kapan each recorded a pair of shot attempts, with Gonzalez putting both of his attempts on target. Three of F&M's shot on goal came during the final half hour of play as the team continued to ramp up its offensive efforts throughout the contest.
Wednesday's contest officially brought a close to Centennial Conference action for the Diplomats in the regular season. Franklin & Marshall returns to Centennial Conference play this Saturday as the team welcomes Swarthmore to Tylus Field for a 3 p.m. start.
