Ryan Horning enters his 12th year at the helm of the Franklin & Marshall baseball program in the 2025 season.

The Diplomats have made the Centennial Conference Tournament six times under his watch. Honored for his team's success, Horning was named the Centennial Conference (CC) Coach of the Year during three consecutive seasons (2019, 2021, 2022). F&M's skipper first appearance in the Centennial Conference Tournament championship series as head coach in 2015 also earned him coach of the year honors and makes him the only manager in conference history to win that award four times. Starting with his second coach of the year honor in 2019, F&M has made the Centennial Conference Tournament every year that the postseason tournament has been held while posting at least 19 wins during each full season of play. After 11 seasons as head coach, Horning's record stands at 209-167-4, a .555 winning percentage which includes a .583 winning percentage (92-63-4) in Centennial Conference games.

With a doubleheader sweep of No. 9 Swarthmore on April 13th, 2019, Horning became F&M baseball's all-time winningest coach. He also reached the 100-win plateau in 2019 after sweeping Hampden-Sydney on Feb. 24. Horning eclipsed 200-career wins in 2024 after defeating McDaniel on Apr. 6. Horning has guided his players to 46 All-Conference honors, two Centennial Conference Pitchers of the Year, two CC Players of the Year, two Gold Gloves of the Year, and one Rookie of the Year accolade. A total of nine student-athletes have earned all-region honors under his watch, including three in 2015. Jonathan Cole '20 was named a second-team D3baseball.com All-American in 2019, becoming the program's first All-American since Tim Sheridan in 1995. During a decorated 2021 season, Kyle Roche '22 was named the D3Baseball.com Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Year before earning second-team All-America recognition. Roche was most recently honored as F&M's Edward Garrigues '25 Award, presented to the most outstanding male student-athlete in the graduating senior class.

Horning was announced as the 47th coach in the history of the program on June 24, 2013, after five seasons as an assistant coach with the Diplomats. F&M posted a record of 101-95-2 during Horning's tenure as an assistant and advanced to the Centennial Conference (CC) playoffs three times, claiming the fourth CC title in program history in 2013. The Diplomats concluded the 2013 campaign with a record of 23-21 and captured their first CC title since 2006, advancing to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the fourth time in school history.

Horning was firmly entrenched in all aspects of the program during his time as an assistant, serving as the defensive coach for both infielders and outfielders while also leading recruiting efforts and off-season camp operations. The Diplomats consistently proved to be one of the top fielding teams in the CC under Horning's guidance, ranking among the top four in the conference in fielding percentage in each of his seasons as an assistant and breaking the single-season record for turned double plays.

A 2004 graduate of St. Lawrence University, Horning joined the staff at F&M as an assistant coach in 2009 after coaching stints at Cornell University, St. John Fisher College and Longwood University. After one year at Division I Longwood, he served as an assistant at St. John Fisher, where he helped guide the Cardinals to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007. From there, Horning moved back to the Division I level to Cornell for one year.

Horning was also a coach for the Watertown Wizards of the New York Collegiate Baseball League for two summers in 2007 and 2008, including one season as head coach, and served as head coach of the Albany Dutchmen of the NYCBL in 2009. Additionally, he guided the Syracuse 16-year-old All-Star Team to the Babe Ruth World Series Championship in 2004, making him the youngest coach to achieve the feat. He led his Syracuse squad to the Babe Ruth World Series in two of his three years as the head coach.
