Steve McCabe joined the Franklin & Marshall men’s soccer coaching staff prior to the start of the 2021 season. In his first season, he mentored Sam Altman Farrell to second-team All-Centennial Conference honors after he led the league in wins, GAA, and save percentage during conference play. McCabe came to the Diplomats after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Millersville University. Prior to the cancelation of the 2020 season, McCabe was instrumental in leading the Marauders to back-to-back Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships and a pair of appearances in the Division II National Tournament.
McCabe has experienced success while contributing to coaching players who have competed in NCAA Division I and II and professional level. Several players that he has coached have signed professional contracts, including players on the Philadelphia Union, Charleston Battery, and U.D. San Sebastian in Spain.
Prior to Millersville, McCabe was the assistant coach and director of soccer operations and recruiting coordinator for Eastern University through the 2007-2011 seasons under current assistant coach Mark Wagner. During parts of that time, McCabe was also the head coach of the Penn Manor High School soccer team as he led to those teams to their first district and league tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012. McCabe coached Penn Manor through the 2014 season.
Before being named the head coach at Penn Manor, McCabe coached Concord Roma and Vineland Galexy which he led them to state championships. McCabe had countless appearances at Pro Youth level playing with several top clubs in Scotland including Kilmarnock FC, Motherwell FC, Ayr United FC and Greenock Morton FC. During 2000-02 season, McCabe signed a professional contract with Kilmarnock FC.
McCabe’s education included graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sports coaching with a sports development degree from University of Abertay, Dundee in Scotland in 2003. While at Eastern, McCabe furthered his education and received his master’s degree in multicultural education in 2015. In addition to his coaching position at Franklin & Marshall, McCabe teaches physical education within the Penn Manor School District.
