WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Brenna Dolphin (Fr., Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) beat the St. Lawrence defense with a goal at the 59:07 mark for the deciding score as the Franklin & Marshall College women's lacrosse team steamed to an 11-10 victory in Florida.
The goal marked her second game-winning score of the season as she scored twice in the final eight minutes of an 8-7 win at Goucher College on March 10.
Leading 11-10 with less than a minute to play, the Diplomats' defense stiffened as goalie Leslie Staines (Fr., Villanova, PA/Radnor) withstood three center hash shots from the eight meter mark to stymie the Saints and hang on for the one goal victory.
Trailing 4-3 at halftime, the Diplomats roared back behind the trio of Dolphin, Holly Rutherford (So., Rochester, NY/Brighton) and Kelly Cassels (Fr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley)as the trio combined for seven goals in the game.
Playing much of the game with eight freshman on the field, including Staines between the pipes, F&M pressured the Saints into turnovers and cashed in their opportunities as the game was knotted at 10-10 with 1:59 to go to set up Dolphin's heroics.
In goal, Staines made 15 saves on 27 Saints' shots, while St. Lawrence's Becky Timbers stopped eight of F&M's 25 shots.
Franklin & Marshall (2-3, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on March 24 versus Muhlenberg College. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
