Elizabethtown Scores Two Runs in Ninth Inning to Drop F&M 4-2 in Baseball

LANCASTER, PA -- Elizabethtown College scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning and Bryan Torresani went three-for-four to lead the Bluejays to a 4-2 victory over Franklin & Marshall College at Caplan Field.

Elizabethtown cracked the scoring column in the top of the fourth inning as Torresani knocked a two RBI single into right center to put the Bluejays (4-5, 0-0 MAC) up 2-0.

The Diplomats (3-3, 0-0 Centennial Conference) answered back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Gary Kruger (So., East Islip, NY/East Islip) led the inning off with a double. Rob Georgiou (Sr., Tappan, NY/Bergen Catholic) moved him over to third and Jon Compitello (So., Yardley, PA/George School) ripped an RBI double to center field scoring Kruger. Dan Hanecak (So., Conestoga, PA/Lancaster Catholic) plated Compitello with an RBI single down the third base to knot the game at 2-2.

Elizabethtown regained the lead in the top of the ninth with an RBI single by Torrensani and a sacrifice fly by Brad Duppstadt that scored Torrensani and put the Bluejays up 4-2 going into the bottom of the ninth inning.

F&M made it exciting in the bottom of the ninth by stringing together a two out rally as Kruger singled up the middle before Georgiou followed him up with a line drive single over the shortstop to put two runners on base. Following a double steal to put Kruger on third and Georgiou on second, Billy McGuire (Fr., Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) worked a full-count walk to load the bases. With the bases loaded, the Jays went to their bull pen for the second time on the day as reliever Matt Woehnker got Hanecak to ground out to the shortstop to end the game and hand Elizabethtown a 4-2 win.

For F&M, reliever EJ Leary (So., Seymour, CT/Seymour) took the loss in relief of starter Dave Stahlman (Sr., Topeka, KS/Washurn Rural), while Elizabethtown's Andy Mees recorded the win with Woehnker tallying a save.
