YORK, PA -- Andy Puglisi went two-for-four with a home run and five runs batted in and the York College Spartans used six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 10-6 victory over Franklin & Marshall College in non-conference baseball action.
York jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Justin Heller and Michael Welch scored on a two run single by Puglisi to put the Spartans up 2-0
The Diplomats halved the lead in the second inning as Gary Kruger (So., East Islip, NY/East Islip) reached on a one out single then moved to second on a failed pick off attempt by York starting pitcher Scott Day. Kruger stole third base with two outs before scoring on a Jon Compitello (So., Yardley, PA/George School) RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.
After Scott Solomon (Sr., Birmingham, AL/Mountain Brook) held YCP scoreless in the bottom of the second, Franklin & Marshall scored another run in the top of the third as Tony Breslau (Sr., Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill) doubled and later scored on a Scott Haft (Jr. Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) single to knot the score at 2-2.
Franklin & Marshall took the lead in the top of the fifth as Dan Hanecak (So., Conestoga, PA/Lancaster Catholic) led the inning off with a single and advanced to third base as a sacrifice bunt attempt by Billy McGuire (Fr., Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) was misplayed courtesy a throwing error by the Spartan starting pitcher. Hanecak came across the plate one batter later as Rob Georgiou (Sr., Tappan, NY/Bergen Catholic) grounded into a double play to give F&M a 3-2 lead.
The Spartans retaliated in the bottom of the inning as York sent 13 batters to the plate scoring six runs on six hits to take an 8-3 lead.
F&M cut into the lead scoring three runs in the top of the sixth as Compitello doubled with the bases loaded for three RBI to trail 8-6.
However, the Spartans tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the 10-6 victory.
On the mound, Solomon went four and a third innings giving up eight runs (6 earned) on nine hits striking out two and allowing two walks to take the loss.
Offensively, Kruger went 3-for-4 to lead the Diplomats at the plate, while Compitello went 2-for-4 with four runs batted in.
