Box Score LANCASTER, PA - Ben Wilson (Sr., Lititz, PA/Lititz Christian) recorded his Centennial Conference best fourth game-winning goal of the season and Ryan McGonigle (So., Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) converted a penalty kick for all Franklin & Marshall College needed in a 2-0 win over Washington College in Centennial Conference men's soccer action at Baker Field.
The Diplomats (7-4-3, 4-3 Centennial Conference) dominated the game out shooting Washington 27-4, including a 17-1 advantage in the first half, and holding a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Franklin & Marshall jumped on the scoreboard with the game-winning goal at the 11:26 mark as Wilson flicked a pass off his heel to Brandon Corday (So., Morton Grove, IL/Niles Township) who beat two defenders before dishing a pass back to Wilson who buried a point blank shot past Shoremen goalie Sean Ferri for a 1-0 lead.
The Diplomats continued to pressure the Washington goal firing off 17 shots in the first half before the Shoremen put a shot towards the Franklin & Marshall net in the closing minutes of the first half.
McGonigle added to the lead in the second half as he converted on a penalty kick after Corday was dragged down in the box. The penalty kick marked the third of the season for McGonigle who is now three-for-three on the year.
In goal, Ed Stelz (Jr., Kew Gardens, NY/Loomis Chaffee) made three saves to record his fourth shutout of the season as the Diplomats have blanked Washington, Ursinus (3-0 W), Muhlenberg (3-0 W) and Lebanon Valley (1-0 W) this year.
Ferri took the loss for Washington recording 15 saves as the Shoremen fall to 4-10-1, 2-4-1 in the Centennial Conference.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on October 26 at home versus Dickinson College in the final regular season home match. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m.
