Stanford Escapes Franklin & Marshall 5-4 in #19-20 Match at Women's Squash Walker Cup

PRINCETON, NJ - Stanford College used victories at #2, 4, 7 and 8 and a default at #9 to finish #19 in the nation and edge #20 Franklin & Marshall College 5-4 in the final round of the 2005 Walker Cup, part of the Howe Cup National Championships, hosted by Princeton University.

The win avenges a 5-4 loss by Stanford to the Diplomats on January 16 in the final match of the 2005 Yale University Round Robin Tournament in New Haven, Connecticut.

In that win, the Diplomats #1 Freddy McNeely (So., Newtown Square, PA/Hill School) fell to Elizabeth Riley 3-2 (6-9, 9-3, 10-8, 3-9, 9-3). In the rematch, McNeely raised her record to 1-1 all-time against Riley as she rolled to a 3-1 (9-4, 9-7, 2-9, 9-2) victory.

Amanda Lesko (Fr., Denver, CO/St. Mary's Academy) added to the Diplomats' win total by knocking off Esther Cheng 3-1 (1-9, 9-5, 9-6, 10-9) at #3 before Barbara Bee (So., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) handled Lauren Willard 3-1 (9-4, 4-9, 9-5, 9-7) at #5.

Virginia Rollins (So., Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School) rounded out the Diplomats' victors as she rolled over Rachel Dening 3-0 (9-1, 9-1, 9-0) at #6.

Named in honor of Yale Coach Dale Walker, the Walker cup is contested among teams ranked #17-24 in the nation.

Franklin & Marshall (9-10) will continue the season on March 4-6 at the Individual Nationals Tournament at Dartmouth.
