Box Score 2 LANCASTER, PA - Gary Kruger (Jr., East Islip, NY/East Islip) scored on a wild pitch in game one for a 5-4 win and Dan Hanecak (Jr., Conestoga, PA/Lancaster Catholic) went three-for-five with one run scored and two RBI in a 8-3 win in game two as the Franklin & Marshall College baseball team swept a Centennial Conference doubleheader at McDaniel College.
In game one, the Diplomats jumped on the board in the first inning as Corey Caruthers (Jr., Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor) reached on a two out single, stole second base and scored two batters later on single by Hanecak for a 1-0 lead.
The Green Terror answered back in the bottom of the second inning scoring three runs on two hits for a 3-1 lead.
F&M tacked on a run in the top of the third inning as Caruthers ripped a homerun over the left field fence to cut the Terror lead to 3-2.
Franklin & Marshall took the lead in the top of the fifth inning as Rob Stern (Fr., Franklin Lakes, NJ/Indian Hills) and Kruger each reached base and moved up on a wild pitch before Scott Haft (Sr., Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) drove them in with a single for a 4-3 lead.
McDaniel knotted the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning before F&M scored a run in the top of the seventh as Kruger reached first on a hit by pitch, stole second base and advanced to third on a Caruthers single before scoring on a wild pitch for the 5-4 victory.
Bobby Goman (Fr., Verona, NJ/Verona) picked up the win as he threw two innings of relief allowing one earned run on two hits before Dan Tischler (Fr., New York, NY/Horace Mann) notched a save with pitching the seventh inning with one strikeout.
In game two, Haft drove in Kruger and Caruthers with a two run out single to right center for a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
McDaniel answered back with runs in the fourth and sixth innings, while F&M scored in the fifth inning for a 5-2 score.
After a run by McDaniel in the bottom of the seventh, the Diplomats reeled off three runs in the eighth and two runs ninth for the 8-3 victory.
Matt Kalos (Fr., Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham) threw two and one third innings of relief to earn his second win of the year as he allowed no runs on two hits with one strikeout in relief of starter Jeff Rowand (So., York, PA/Dallastown) who went six and two thirds innings allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Franklin & Marshall (15-12, 9-3 Centennial Conference) will return to action on April 17 in Paterson, NJ for a non-conference game versus William Paterson. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
