LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College and Johns Hopkins University split a Centennial Conference baseball doubleheader as the JHU Blue Jays took game one 7-2 and the Diplomats came from behind to win 7-6 in game two.

Franklin & Marshall jumped on the board first in game one in the bottom of the fourth inning as Stephen Frederick (Jr., Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) lined a two out single after Eric Milavsky (Jr., Medford, NJ/Shawnee) reached on a fielders choice. Tommy Miller (Fr., York, PA/Central York) scored Milavsky and Frederick on a two out two run single to give Franklin & Marshall a 2-0 lead.

Hopkins (12-5, 3-3 Centennial Conference) answered in the top of the sixth inning as Paul Long was hit by a pitch and scored two batters later on a Mike Durgala single to cut the Diplomats lead to 2-1.

After a scoreless bottom of the inning for the Diplomats, the Blue Jays sent 11 batters to the plate to chase Diplomats' starting pitcher Ted Serro (Jr., Brooklyn, NY/Xavier) as JHU scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to win game one 7-2.

Serro went six and a third innings allowing five runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks, while Jason Thayer earned the win for Johns Hopkins going seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits, with one strikeout and a walk.

In game two, JHU cracked the scoring column in the top of the second inning as Durgala lead the inning off with a double then scored on a one out single by Paul Winterling to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.
Hopkins tacked another run on the board in the top of the fifth as Mike Spiciarich lead the inning by being hit by a pitch and scored two batters later on a two out single by Ian Christie for a 2-0 advantage.

Franklin & Marshall knotted the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the inning as Dan Hanecak (Jr., Conestoga, PA/Lancaster Catholic) doubled with one out before advancing to third on a single by Milavsky. Billy McGuire (So., Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) drove in Hanecak with a single which moved Milavsky to third as Josh Welk (So., Strasburg, PA/Lancaster Christian) scored Milavsky on a ground out to short.

Johns Hopkins answered with two runs in the top of the seventh and two runs in the top of the eighth.

However, Franklin & Marshall also scored four runs with one in the bottom of the seventh and three in the bottom of the eighth for a 6-6 game going into the ninth inning.

Reliever Matt Kalos (Fr., Melrose Park, PA/Cheltenham) kept Hopkins in check in the top of the inning allowing a single to Ian Christie and forcing two fly outs and a ground out to short.

In the bottom of the ninth, Pat O'Reilly (Fr., Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) hit a one out single and Rob Stern (Fr., Franklin Lakes, NJ/Indian Hills) singled to put runners on first and second. Hopkins reliever Joe Zaccaria then intentionally walked Gary Kruger (Jr., East Islip, NY/East Islip) to lead the bases before Corey Caruthers (Jr., Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor) lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score O'Reilly and give F&M a 7-6 come from behind victory.

On the mound for the Diplomats, Jeff Rowand (So., York, PA/Dallastown) went six and two thirds innings allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Kalos tossed the final two and one third innings allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits to earn his first collegiate win.

Stern and Kruger each recorded three hits in game two while Caruthers collected two RBI to pace the Diplomats.

Franklin & Marshall (7-8, 3-3 Centennial Conference) will return to action on April 10 in Chestertown, Maryland versus Washington College in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
