COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Dave Randolph's two-run blast in the seventh inning was the difference maker as Ursinus defeated Franklin & Marshall 6-5 on Tuesday. He finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and drive in. The game was the Centennial opener for both teams.

Prior to Randoplh's shot, the Diplomats held a 5-4 lead on the strength of a four run sixth which began with a Rich Gallugi (Peabody, MA / St. John's Prep) triple. He later advanced home on a bases loaded walk for the inning's first run. Rob Stern (Franklin Lakes, NJ / Indian Hills) offered the Diplomats the second triple of the inning driving in two runs with a pair of outs on the board. Gallugi was the game's first run in the fourth coming home on a Shea Moriarty (Wilton, CT / Wilton) sacrifice fly.

Stern and Jeffrey Rowand (York, PA / Dallastown) each recorded a pair of hits with Stern driving in the pair of runs on his extra base knock. Jason Anderson (Westfield, NJ / Westfield) and Billy McGuire (Chappaqua, NY / Horace Greeley) also each recorded an RBI.

Matt Kalos (Melrose Park, PA / Cheltenham), who came on for the final out in Ursinus's three-run sixth, took the loss having worked one and one-thirds innings. He is 0-3 on the year.

Ryan Smith (2-1) worked four innings in relief for the Bears, surrendering two runs, neither earned, on five hits while fanning two Diplomats.

Franklin & Marshall (6-8, 0-1 CC) returns to action on Friday when it hosts Ursinus (9-5, 1-0 CC). The 3:30 game will be the first played at Caplan Field this season.
