DOVER, Del. - Alvernia (2-0) swept Franklin & Marshall (1-2) in a Sunday double-header. The Crusaders won the first game 6-3, and completed the afternoon sweep with a 13-3 win.

Jason Zeigler surrendered three runs on five hits in earning the win in the opener. Four of the hits and all three runs against him came in the Franklin & Marshall fourth. Billy McGuire's single through the right side plated Jeff Rowand and Rich Gallugi. A Jason Anderson single brought McGuire home.

The three-run inning erased the Crusaders 2-0 lead built in the first inning when a pair of runners scored on a passed ball. Alvernia lead did not the lead last for long.

Tim Carroll's one out single in the top of he next inning became the tying run when Dale Curry punched a hit through the left side of the F&M infield. Alvernia grabbed the lead for good in the top of the sixth when an Edwin Tavarez double drove in two runs. Tavarez stole his way to third before scoring himself on a wild pitch to make it the 6-3 final. Ziegler limited the Diplomats to one hit over the final three innings.

Matt Kalos (0-1) was saddled with the loss giving up six runs, three earned, on nine hits.

The Crusaders got to Brad Andres early in the nightcap scoring six runs off of the F&M starter on four hits. He lasted four and a third before being lifted. Four runs in the fifth and five more in the seventh put the matter to rest.

Zach Lutz doubled into left center to plate a pair of runs and then scored himself on a Chris Raniere sacrifice fly to rightfield to build a 3-0 lead midway through the first. F&M answered with two runs on as many errors in the bottom half of the inning, but was unable to tie the game before Alvernia could pull away.

Brian Longo (1-0) took the win for Alvernia. He allowed a pair of runs on a pair of hits. Neither of the runs against him were earned.

Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Tuesday against Albright.
