Visiting Franklin & Marshall scored three runs in the first inning and four in the ninth in an 8-2 Centennial Conference baseball win over host Washington College this afternoon at Athey Field. The Diplomats improved to 15-8 overall and 9-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 9-13 and 3-7 with the loss.
The victory was the ninth in a row for the Diplomats. The current winning streak is one game longer than the eight game streak strung together during last year's championship season. All of the wins in the current tear have come during Centennial play.
Matthew Metsch (5-1) pitched a complete game for the Diplomats, allowing two
earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters.
Mark Minutaglio was 3-for-5 at the plate for F&M with two doubles, one
RBI, and two runs scored, while Tom Miller was 2-for-4 with a double, an
RBI and two runs scored. Jeffrey Rowand drove in two runs and scored
two others.
Senior Zachary Huba was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Shoremen in the loss. Sophomore Chris O'Donovan added his first collegiate hit when he pinch hit in the ninth inning.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow when F&M hosts Dickinson for a pair.
