LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall swept #19 Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Caplan Field. F&M won the opener 3-2, and followed that with a 10-8 victory.

The sweep gives F&M a 19-10 (13-3 CC) record, but still leaves the Diplomats a game behind in the Centennial standings as Hopkins, having suffered its first two Centennial losses this afternoon, fell to 12-2 in the league. The Jays are 24-6 overall following today's games.

Dan Tischler (New York, NY / Horace Mann) picked up the win in the opener having allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits. Hopkins run in the seventh that sent the game into extra innings was the first earned run scored on Tischler in Conference play this season. He improved to 4-1 on the year.

The extra innings forced by that run didn't last long. Rich Gallugi (Peabody, MA / St. John's Prep) doubled into centerfield to leadoff the frame. A Shea Moriarty (Wilton, CT / Wilton) sacrifice bunt put Gallugi on third. Billy McGuire (Chappaqua, NY / Horace Greeley) plated the game-winning run with a single up the middle for the 3-2 final.

Joe Zaccaria was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits. Despite striking out seven, he fell to 4-2 on the year.

Gallugi accounted for a pair of the hits against Zaccaria, as well as two of the Diplomats three runs. Pat O'Reilly (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape) and McGuire each also had a pair of hits in the first game.

The second game was anything but a pitcher's duel as the Conference's top squads combined for 26 hits. Each team had 13 knocks, and both starters were chased by the third.

After posting a run in each of the first two innings, F&M blew the game open with seven runs on six hits in the third. Jeffrey Rowand (York, PA / Dallastown) was responsible for two of the hits, scoring once and driving Mark Minutaglio (Armonk, NY / Byram Hills). Minutaglio's run ended up being the game-deciding score. He had reached earlier in the inning on s single that plated a pair of Diplomat runners.

Hopkins responded with six runs on seven hits in the top of the fourth. Dave Garber's three-run homer fueled the Hopkins inning, which made it a 9-6 game in favor of F&M.

Brad Andres (Belle Meade, NJ / Carroll), who took over shortly after the three-run shot without an out in the book, worked the final six innings for the win. He gave up three run on six hits while striking out seven. His second win of the week improved his record to 5-2.

F&M returns to the diamond on Sunday at Lebanon Valley.
