Swimmers Open Season at Hopkins

Results

BALTIMORE -- Franklin & Marshall's women's swim team opened the season with a 141-115 loss at Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Brittany McCabe won a pair of races for the Diplomats (0-1), capturing the 50 and 100-yard backstrokes.

Hopkins (1-2) got the early jump, winning the first three races before McCabe picked up first place points in the 50-yard backstroke with a .61-second edge on the Jays' Lindsey Kent. McCabe also won the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.23, giving her a .16-second differential on Hopkins' Margaret Spach.

F&M's Meghan Karanian was edged out by .13 seconds in the 100-yard free, which went to JHU's Shelby Stewart in 28.50 seconds. Jennie Pane touched the wall .77 seconds after Karanian.
First-year, Olivia Hill, took second place in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.24, coming in just behind Hopkins' Elissa Stautner. That race secured the Jays' win. The Jays' entered exhibition contestants the remainder of the way.

The win was the first of the season for the Jays, which opened the season with close losses to Navy and Maryland.

The Diplomats return to the pool Friday evening against Bryn Mawr for the Centennial and home opener. Both the men's and women's team will swim next Saturday against The College of New Jersey.
