LANCASTER, Pa.- -Franklin & Marshall's women's
swimming team bested the University of Rochester, but fell to
Carnegie Mellon and Washington & Lee in a non-conference
quadrangular Saturday afternoon. F&M posted a 139-123 win over
Rochester. Carnegie Mellon, which went unscathed on the day, handed
F&M a 171-91 setback, while
Washington & Lee defeated the Diplomats (4-4) 173-89.
Olivia Hill took first in the 1000-yard freestyle, the Diplomats
only first place finish of the afternoon. She touched at 10:57.08,
.74 seconds in front of Carnegie Mellon's Victoria Adams.
Hill went on to take third in the 500-yard free with a 5:25.04,
coming to the wall 14.21 seconds after Molly Evans from Carnegie
Mellon.
Evans was a bugaboo for the Diplomats throughout the afternoon.
Brittany McCabe placed second in the 100 back, touching .84 seconds
after Evans, who clocked an NCAA “B-Cut” time of 59.05.
McCabe finished third in the 200-yard back with a 2:14.08. Evans
and Washington & Lee's Lindsey Strachan each came in
under 2:10 with Evans touching first.
McCabe, Katherine DeCrosta, Jennie Payne, and Meghan Karanian
took second in the 200-yard medley relay with a 1:54.02. The
Diplomats' quartet finished .62 seconds behind the Carnegie
Mellon entry, led by Evans.
Like McCabe, Laura Bassford contributed second and third place
points for the Diplomats. She touched second in the 200-yard
butterfly at 2:15.65. CMU's Rebecca Ussai won the race with a
mark of 2:14.62. Bassford added third place points in the in
100-yard butterfly with a 1:02.07.
The Diplomats are idle until the F&M Invitational. The
two-day event gets underway on December 6.
