LANCASTER, Pa. – Jennie Payne, Laura Bassford, and Olivia
Hill each had a hand in three wins as Franklin & Marshall
cruised to a 108-50 win over Bryn Mawr in the Diplomats Centennial
Conference (CC) opener. F&M won every contested race, and
touched first in all exhibitions, drawing even at 1-1 (1-0 CC) on
the year. Bryn Mawr fell to 0-4 (0-2 CC).
Payne won the night's tightest race, edging out teammate,
Meghan Karanian in the 50-yard free. Payne clocked a 25:97,
followed by Karanian at 26.23. Payne took the 100-yard fly by three
seconds from Bryn Mawr's Kelsey Power with Payne swimming to
a 1:02.75. She went on to swim the first leg in the night's
final race, the 200-free relay, in which she, Samantha Sweeney,
Garland Bartlett and Olivia Hill combined for a 1:47.44.
Bassford started F&M on a winning note, contributing the
first leg in the winning lane of the 200-yard medley relay.
Katherine DeCrosta and Lindsey Todd took the middle legs with
Brittany McCabe swimming the anchor lap.
Bassford edged out Emily Zacherl in a tightly contested
200-free. Bassford touched at 2:04.05, just ahead of her teammate
at 2:04.89. Bassford also knocked off a handful of teammates in the
500-free, clocking a 5:29.13. Kim Greenfield was just behind at
5:33.76.
Hill posted the top time in the 200-I.M. with a 2:18.08 and the
100-breastsroke with a 1:13.89.
In addition to her leg in the 200-free relay, Bartlett won the
1,000-yard free handily with a 28-second advantage on the field.
She logged a 1:12.56.
McCabe was the only swimmer to come in under a minute in the
100-yard free. She posted a 56.12. DeCrosta posted the top time in
the 100-back, a 1:04.83.
Franklin & Marshall returns to the pool tomorrow when the
Diplomats host the College of New Jersey. The first race gets
underway at 1:00 p.m.
