LA VERNE, Calif. -
Franklin & Marshall scored nine runs in the over the course of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to erase a 2-0 deficit en route to a 9-4 win over LaVerne (9-9-1) Thursday evening.
Trailing 2-0, F&M (4-6) scored four runs on four hits and in error in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. The final half of the damage in the frame came on a two-out double by Rich Gallugi. His shot into the left-center gap scored Jason Anderson as the go-ahead run and plated Shea Moriarty. Bill Murray added one of the insurance runs in the seventh with a two-run blast that scored Eric Bornstein. Bornstein had driven in Patrick O'Reilly who started the inning off with a double down the rightfield line.
For the second time this week, the Diplomats picked up a win with purely freshman pitcher. Nick Markel (1-0) took the start and the decision working six innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits. Christian Leary, Tom Caramanico, and Chris Miller finished out the game. Miller struck out a pair.
The Diplomats return to action on Friday a Cal Lutheran, before heading onto Redlands on Saturday to close out the California swing.
