SALEM, Va. - Eileen O'Reilly scored a goal and dished out an
assist to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 3-1 win over Roanoke in
non-conference field hockey action on Saturday.
O'Reilly netted the first goal of the game and assisted Lauren
Wendth on the final tally of the afternoon to help the head coach
Missy Krempa (1-1) pick up their first collegiate win. Jessika
Mancino scored the eventual game winner to give the Diplomats (1-1)
a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Lee Sheldon tallied the lone goal for the Maroons (1-3) and
Lauren Dukes made eight saves in the cage.
F&M's netminder Naomi Stone made her first collegiate start
and finished with three saves on the afternoon.
It took 2:52 for O'Reilly to get the Diplomats on the board for
a 1-0 lead. In the 18th minute, Sauers connected with
Mancino for a two-goal advantage heading into halftime.
Sheldon found the back of the cage at 48:04, but Wendth put
Roanoke out of reach with her first goal of the season off a pass
from O'Reilly in the 58th minute.
F&M returns to action tomorrow against Lynchburg in Salem,
Va. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
