COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Giuseppe Bua scored the game-winning goal
with just 1:52 left in the second overtime leading Franklin &
Marshall to a 2-1 victory over Ursinus in a Centennial Conference
(CC) men's soccer game. The win secures a playoff spot for the
Diplomats (9-5-2, 5-2-1 CC).
The Bears (3-10-2, 0-7-1 CC) struck first in the 54th
minute when Chris Polster deflected an Andrew Machalick free kick
to the back corner of the net. Mike Irving knotted the game
at one apiece with an unassisted goal at 70:02.
The teams played through one scoreless overtime
before Irving came away with the ball after a scramble ensued
in front the net and Bua fired it home.
Ursinus keeper Mike Alfieri was under attack all night as the
Diplomats fired off 43 shots to the Bears' 10. Alfieri picked up 16
saves while absorbing the loss.
Zach Zamek picked up the win, stopping two shots. Zamek improves
to 9-5.
Franklin & Marshall returns to field on October
31st when the Diplomats travel to Dickinson. The game
wraps up the regular season and it will decide what seed F&M
receives for the post-season tournament.
