LANCASTER, Pa. -- #23 Franklin & Marshall upset #15 George
Washington with a convincing 7-2 win Sunday afternoon. The
Diplomats' (1-3) victory was the first of the season, snapping the
Colonials' (1-1) two-match streak in the series. F&M leads the
series 11-2.
Four of F&M's wins were 3-0 sweeps, including No. 1 Morgan
Smith's (1-3) 11-4, 11-6, 11-5 win over Kate Bullard. At No. 3,
first-year Katherine Barnes picked up her first collegiate victory
with a 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 12-10) win over Lauren Mathieu.
No. 7 Courtney Mulligan moved within a match of her
25th collegiate win and .500 on her career with a sweep
of Donna Farizan. No. 9 Dana Russo surrendered a dozen points in
her sweep of Toby Leventhal.
First-years Chelsea Ross and Stephanie Tzarnas each collected
their first collegiate win at No. 5 and No. 8, respectively. Each
of their matches went four sets. Both dropped the first game, but
rallied to take the next three to victory. No. 2 Ellie Foster also
dropped the first game in her 3-1 win over Caroline Shumway.
